The Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment

We believe in being a positive force in something bigger. And it all starts right here in our community. Not just by our donations, but by our actions.

That's why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities.

Every year, we join hands with our owners in the "Share the Love" event, giving back to our community-a community that's given so much to us.

We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We're grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood.

All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people.

Loving the environment means more than loving the great outdoors. It means working to preserve it.

Since 2018, Subaru has partnered with TerraCycle.  Participating Subaru retailers collect hard-to-recycle trash that was headed to local landfills. We collect approximately 2 tons of this hard-to-recycle trash monthly, which will be converted to furnishings and other usable items and donated locally.

It’s our goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible.

Since 2015 Subaru, in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement Science, donated over 277,600 award-winning science books.  In addition, through our partnerships with Staples and we supported teachers and students with donations of S400,000 in gift cards and school supplies.

In a perfect world, hunger would be history and hope would be commonplace. We believe a perfect world is possible.

In 2020, Subaru and its retailers made a donation to Feeding America to provide 50 million meals to help feed people in need during the COVID-19 crisis,* making meals available at 199 local food banks across the country.
*$1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

We should all have a chance to lead a healthy life. We’re aiming to give as many people that chance as we can.

Since 2016, Subaru and its retailers have partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to donate over 167,000 blankets and 21,500 arts & crafts kits and reached nearly 150,000 patients in more than 780 hospitals nationwide.

Dozens of Homeless Pets Saved in October  –  Lindsay P

October was a fantastic month for homeless pets in the Lowcountry. Peacock Subaru Hilton Head’s comprehensive plan to pay it forward throughout October helped rescue dozens of pets in peril and helped dozens more find homes. Peacock Subaru supported Palmetto Animal League’s first-ever virtual adoption event on Thursday, October 8, 2020. This adorable event, which included fee-waived adoptions made possible through a generous grant from the ASPCA®, led to the adoption of 34 pets in the span of just one week! The joyous adoptions included that of 5-month-old Crouton. While learning to overcome his eye condition, Crouton stole the hearts of our staff and shortly after, those of his new family, proving that special needs pets make wonderful companions. As another way to support PAL’s No Kill Adoption Center, Peacock Subaru pledged to donate $100 to PAL for every pet adopted in October, leading to a generous donation of $3,100 and even more pets finding their forever home. Max is one of those dogs. Thanks to Peacock Subaru’s dedication to helping the underdog, this 10-year-old was rescued by PAL and will live to enjoy his golden years in a great home with his new dad. Both Crouton and Max are alive and happy in their new homes today because of the compassionate contributions of Peacock Subaru this fall. As a Palmetto Animal League Partner in Rescue, Peacock Subaru embraces PAL’s mission to build a community where every neglected animal has a second chance at life.

Peacock Subaru Hilton Head presented $10,125 to Greater Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine (BJVIM) at the conclusion of its annual Subaru Share the Love event. This total more than doubles the amount raised last year. The Share the Love event was held at the end of 2019 when the dealership invited each Subaru buyer to designate a portion of their purchase price to benefit either a national nonprofit organization or Peacock Subaru's hometown charity. "It's truly a testament to our community's belief in the vital mission of Volunteers in Medicine that our dealership continually selects these heroes to be our hometown charity and that our customers keep choosing to give back locally—and even more so this year when the need is much greater," said Ken Kirby, general manager of Peacock Subaru. Through the dedicated service of approximately 75 volunteer physicians, nurses and allied health professionals, BJVIM provides free medical care to the residents of Bluffton and Jasper County who are uninsured. "We have outstanding nurses and physicians who donate their time and expertise to our community, but it's imperative that we have financial assistance in order to make a difference," said Dennis Toney, development director of BJVIM. "We rely on donations like these and the support from Peacock Subaru could not have come at a better time. Nationally, the Share the Love event has enabled Subaru of America and its participating retailers to donate more than $176 million to charity over the last 12 years. Customers have the option of choosing between four national and one of over 1,220 dealership-specific hometown charities. Subaru Loves to Care with Local Cancer Centers!  –  Lauren M

Every year we say this is the best delivery yet and this year was no different! The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society staff out of Savannah, GA was proud to join forces with Peacock Subaru of Hilton Head for another inspiring delivery of blankets to SC Cancer Specialists and Radiation Oncology of St. Joseph’s Candler in Hilton Head, SC. This year our delivery led by Peacock Subaru General Manager, Ken Kirby, whose wife is a proud cancer survivor. I personally went through a lot of the same things they have to go through on a daily basis and the horrific things of chemo and radiation my wife went through, so this has a personal kind of feeling for me,” Kirby said. Also, joining our team was local Subaru ambassador and cancer survivor, Craig Mathews of Hilton Head’s 104.9 The Surf. For the month of June, Peacock asked customers and staff members to personalize Messages of Hope to be delivered to patients along with their blankets. “It’s not something where we are trying to sell anything or you don’t have to buy anything from us,” explained Kirby, General Manager of Peacock Subaru. “It’s a way we can do this for somebody and make someone’s day a little easier.” Cancer patients were very quick to let us know that the Messages were even more cherished than the blankets. Local patient, Judith Movshin said, “It’s just nice to know that someone out there is thinking about you and pulling for you. Even if I never meet them, they are rooting for me. That feeling means more than I can put into words.”This year we were joined by staff members from the Lewis Cancer Research Pavilion (LCRP). Administrator Nancy Johnson said, “Going through treatment it’s important to have support. Whether its people or encouragement or services we offer. That’s part of the whole treatment.” The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is proud to partner with LCRP and Peacock Subaru to spread hope, love, and warmth to those fighting cancer throughout the Lowcountry. Many thanks to everyone at Peacock Subaru, not only for a memorable day, but for supporting LLS’s mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

On July 6th, 2017 Jill and Patrick from Subaru of Hilton Head, Crystal from LLS, and cancer survivor and radio personality Craig Matthews set out to deliver blankets and messages of hope to two local treatment centers in the Hilton Head area: SC Cancer Specialists - Hilton Head and the Radiation and Oncology Center at the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion. We met so many incredible patients fighting the battle to beat cancer and they were so moved by the messages of hope and blankets. Timothy Anthony Wright smiled ear to ear as he read his “Message of Hope” during his chemo treatment. “My card says, you are the best, with a big heart drawn on it! It is from Yasmine, that is just so special that a young person who doesn't know me would think of me! I hope I can thank her in person some day!” said Timothy. Timothy's oncologist shares why he appreciates the partnership of Subaru and LLS. “A lot of the treatments we give, there’s a lot of pain and suffering, a lot of insecurities, many patients are alone, and, you know when you were a child growing up, didn’t you have a teddy bear?,” said Dr. Gary Thomas, a medical oncologist at St. Joseph’s/Candler in Hilton Head, “Just a simple symbol that you can hold on to, and say hey this is here for me, I think is a very important thing.” LLS truly appreciates the Subaru dealerships, local and nationally, and this partnership. Together we want patients to know that there is a support system from their local communities, there is hope!

The smiles and the thank you's were so sweet as these patients immediately enjoyed the warmth and comfort the blankets provided. We learned that this was the first donation or outside community support that these centers had received from local businesses in a very long time. The staff was so appreciative and it was clear a true impact was made. THANK YOU Subaru for your support! Highlight and right click the following link to see our Love Promise in action:
