2018 Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V

The competitive compact SUV segment offers drivers plenty of options. When comparing the 2018 Subaru Forester vs. Honda CR-V, you'll see both of these cars are great in their own way. However, if you're looking for your next car, you might be wondering which one is right for you.

If you're a driver in Hardeeville, Bluffton, or Hilton Head Island, make an informed decision by reading this vehicle comparison from Peacock Subaru.

Interior Space & Comfort

It isn't often that you are sitting in the back seat of your own vehicle but you want your passengers who are sitting in the second row to be just as comfortable as your front seat passenger. And in the 2018 Subaru Forester all of your passengers will be comfortable. The Forester offers a more spacious second row, more front legroom, and roomier overall cabin than the Honda CR-V. The Honda CR-V has a total passenger volume of 10.59 cubic feet and 41.3 inches front leg room. The Subaru Forester, however, offers 108.3 cubic feet of passenger volume and 43 inches of front legroom. One small area where the CR-V just barely bests the Forester is maximum cargo space. The Honda CR-V has a maximum cargo space of 76 cubic feet compared the Foresters 74.7 cubic feet. But if you have furry friends that ride in the way back the Subaru Forester will be a better choice with almost 2 inches more vertical space than the CR-V.

Tech Features

Both the Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V have tech features, which make them more intuitive and fun to drive. For example, both come with Pandora® and Bluetooth® technology, which makes it easy to stream audio or make hands-free phone calls. The standard audio system in both is a 4-speaker setup, so it's easy to listen to whatever media has been selected. However, unlike the 2018 CR-V, the Forester comes standard with Aha™, Stitcher™, and iHeartRadio®, which gives drivers more ways to listen to music. When upgrading to a higher trim level in either SUV, a trial subscription to SiriusXM® Satellite will provide you with over 100 channels of news, music, sports, and commercial-free programming. You can also have a navigation system in either car, with voice recognition software and real-time traffic updates to get to any destination right on time.

Performance Matters

The base edition of the 2018 Subaru Forester features a strong 4-cylinder base engine, which produces 170 horsepower. It comes linked to a 6-speed manual transmission, but a continuously variable transmission can be swapped in if you prefer. The base engine in the CR-V is a 2.4L 4-cylinder, which puts out 184 horsepower. There's also a 1.5L 4-cylinder that makes 190 horsepower on higher trims.

But, neither of those CR-V engines match what the 2018 Forester can offer, which is a 250-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder. This turbo-four engine is capable of providing quick acceleration and climbs hills well. The Subaru is also equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which means better traction when Mother Nature isn't cooperating. The 2018 CR-V does have all-wheel drive functionality, but it's not a standard feature like it is in the Forester.
